margaritas part 1

To be honest silver tequila is my favorite liquor which makes margaritas like… my favorite drink. I’m lucky to live in a city where they make them right with lime juice, agave and NO sweet/sour or powdered mix.

Because of this love of both tequila and margaritas I’ve decided to share my favorite spots to sip them in Santa Fe, NM.

They will go in no particular order as my love for each is for different reasons, they are like snow flakes no two are the same… or something like that.

Today I’d like both recommend and share about Coyote Rooftop Cantina. It’s one of my favorite rooftop bars in Santa Fe, honestly in the summer it’s kinda the place to be. I’ve even spotted Ewan McGregor there. They have tacos (great tacos), jalapeño shooters (a must try) and of course great drinks. Their full drink menu is pretty great including things named, Kentucky Breakfast, Pink Geisha  and a Gentlemen’s Vice.

It’s a fun place to eat, drink, people watch and be seen. We typically just grab the salsa trio (above) and a margarita and beer respectively.  They have a great margarita list and you can’t go wrong with anyone you pick, frozen or on the rocks. They do it right though, perfectly mixed and a little on the strong side.

So, next time you feel like people watching in class check out Coyote Rooftop Cantina (132 W Water St) I know it’s where you’ll find me for a large portion of this summer.





Breakfast could quite possibly be my favorite meal of the day especially when it turns into brunch…and mimosas but I digress.

One of my favorite spots for breakfast or brunch in Santa Fe is, Clafoutis ( 402 N Guadalupe St).

I’ve never left more than thrilled and charmed by the atmosphere and the food.

I should share some recommendations but honestly every single thing I’ve had is delicious. I’m typically the type of person who has a favorite and that’s what I stick with, not here. I enjoy everything on the menu but if I had to offer up some help with deciding I’d note for breakfast;

L’assiette Francasise (french plate)- comes with ham, prosciutto, salami, cheese, salad, home-made bread and…butter.

Le Special- two eggs, bacon or ham, bread and butter, french jam and a croissant.

House Waffles or Crepes (peach is my favorite!)


Le Plate de Tous Jours (dish of the day)- home-made bread, hame, salad, home-made french fry chips (yum) and… butter.

Sandwich Cubian- made with grilled ham and pork

Salade Charlotte- green apples, feta, cucumbers, peppers and prosciutto


Clafoutis is also a bakery, all bread and pastry is made in house and honestly it’s to die for- all of it. If you visit I beg you to order an extra pastry, sweet or fresh baguette — I promise you will thank me later. It’s a family run restaurant and it’s one of the best things about Santa Fe. The food and people are a gem and I promise it’s worth the wait to get in. Our favorite thing is to get up early to beat the crowds on a Saturday morning, with the home-made croissants and shabby chic decor I promise that for a moment you’ll forget your in the desert of New Mexico.






mondays are for pizza and april is for poetry. did you know that april is national poetry month? well it is and mondays are just made for pizza for the sole fact they come after the weekend and almost always are totally exhausting.

seth and i recently found our new favorite pizza place in santa fe. we have been putting off trying it for some reason and were very pleasantly surprised at how good it was. pizza centro is our new favorite. we tried the central park with no sundried tomoates. the crust is perfect and the fresh basil on top is soo good. plus it’s not super greasy which is always a plus in my book.

they have 2 locations in santa fe, one down town by yin yang chinese and one by the regal 14 movie theater. we prefer the little space closer to down town.

so, just go try it okay- you won’t regret it and honestly who doesn’t love pizza?

and to indulge in poetry month, the most famous poem about pizza…

A Pizza the Size of the Sun – Jack Prelutsky

I’m making a pizza the size of the sun,
a pizza that’s sure to weigh more than a ton,
a pizza too massive to pick up and toss,
a pizza resplendent with oceans of sauce.I’m topping my pizza with mountains of cheese,
with acres of peppers, pimentos, and peas,
with mushrooms, tomatoes, and sausage galore,
with every last olive they had at the store.My pizza is sure to be one of a kind,

the teahouse

i had to take a moment to write about the teahouse in santa fe.

the teahouse sits on top of canyon road which is the perfect place for tourists or anyone looking for a beautiful walk up the historic street. since we moved here…2 1/2 years ago it’s been a constant yummy recommendation. i should note that seth has worked here since we moved, which did help me fall in love with their tea selections for sure. but really, their food is great especially the breakfast or small plates they have throughout the day. my favorite dish would be the oatmeal, it’s to die for (not even kidding) — made with forbidden rice and steel cut oats, topped with fresh fruit and clotted cream. if i’m there around breakfast i can’t resist it, seth also really loves the eggs benedict norwegian which is a benedict with salmon.

the teahouse has been a local favorite for 10+ years and recently has gone under new management– that really brings a new life and consistency to the experience. they are constantly updating/upgrading to please both locals and visitors alike. your really not going to wrong with anything. in the evening they have a lovely italian menu that features a killer lasagna and they always have a slow cooked dish of the day.

i’m getting excited for springtime and summer because it means the garden will be open. the teahouse garden is honestly the place to be on a beautiful day in santa fe, it’s such a lovely atmosphere– perfect for taking your time and meeting new people.

if you ever have the chance to stop by, here are my personal recommendations (apart from the oatmeal and eggs benedict norwedgian)

  • lavender lemonade (seasonal)
  • gluten free scones (flavor changes every day; made in-house)
  • BLT
  • matcha or matcha latte (seriously some of the best matcha i’ve ever had)
  • gingerbread with fresh whipped cream
  • italian chicken pot pie (polenta crust)
  • beer and wine menu

Iconik Coffee

One of my favorite coffee spots in Santa Fe would hands down be Iconik Coffee on Lena Street.

It’s just tucked back enough to keep most of the busy tourists out and big enough to draw a local crowd for meetings, afternoon breaks and all day work sessions. I love the overall esthetic of the place, it’s open but very inviting and detail oriented. I feel like every time I go in I find another nook or cranny I haven’t noticed before.

I’d say the most impressive feature of this coffee shop is the roaster which is used and displayed front and center.

I really can’t say enough for the welcoming environment and atmosphere the boosts both meeting agendas and leisurely afternoons. And as much as I love their set up I also really love their coffee which is all direct trade and roasted on that lovely machine you saw above. I especially enjoy that each cup of coffee is ‘pour over’ style but they also have the list of espresso drinks if that’s your style too. If you like coffee you can’t go wrong here and I promise once you sit down you’ll want to stay awhile.

So next time your in need of a great coffee shop in Santa Fe- here is my best recommendations. Did I forget to mention they have food too! Breakfast (pictured above) salads, omelets and a great mix of daily specials.

Mangiamo Pronto

I wanted to take a moment, a moment in internet time anyway and fill you in on one of my favorite little spots in Santa Fe. Mangiamo Pronto, as the name suggests it’s Italian. It’s a go to for us, a go to for coffee, tea, happy hour, quick snack, leisurely lunch…. whatever. It’s a nice mix of locals and tourists but I personally can’t get over the atmosphere.

I visited Italy when I was 20 and fell in love with so many different things about their culture. One being the feeling and ambiance of their small bars and cafes.

Mangiamo Pronto has that same classic feel. My recommendation is to visit during happy hour (typically 4-6pm) for appetizers and drinks. I’m about to share my biggest secret but you can get a glass of champagne for around $4 and to top that they have some killer bruschetta. Those two are my personal favorites but you can’t go wrong with their gelato or shot of LavAzza espresso.

Seth and I were in on our last snow day and had the whole place to ourselves… it was pretty close to divine. Here are some shots of their cute space.

saturday adventures

seth surprised me with a day in albuquerque and can you guess what we did? well, we sure didn’t take the breaking bad tour that is for sure. (although i am thinking that if i get bored enough it might make it onto my ‘ok’ list.). we did however do 2 things we’ve never done before at least not together. we visited the aquarium and bio park and then rode the sandia peak tram to the top of the mountain.

it was fun, it was actually really nice to get out and do something that we had never done together it was a l m o s t like being some place brand new. i’ve been craving travel for quite some time now and with the busyness of the season we just can’t make it happen till summer.

here are some highlights from the aquarium/bio park- the jelly fish and sting rays were my favorite. growing up my dad was the manager of a zoo and botanical gardens and i have to be honest i’ve always thought greenhouses are kinda like the coolest things ever. i even got to work in one for a summer it was really quiet and really great.

food. because everyone loves pictures of food! hey, i’m really just trying to up my chances of you using me as a mental punching bag. i like what i like, i can’t help it — and i really like food. we are not albuquerque natives but one of our favorite places for breakfast or lunch is ‘the grove’- seriously they can make a simple turkey sandwich taste amazing. now the gelato is not from ‘the grove’ but a new place we found in uptown (shopping area) it’s called frost. it was s o o o good, like extremely close to actual italian gelato when you eat it in italy. amazing- i’m already excited to go back.

so, there you have it- f u n. it’s really great to have fun in your own city or surrounding area and try things you haven’t before. and yes while the aquarium was full of new parents and babies/toddlers it was great to just be in a new place together. and FYI the tram to the top of the mountain is basically like being on a crowded subway car but in the sky — germy hand rails and everything. i actually got a little nervous for the whole thing and ended up not taking as many pictures as i had hoped.

“enjoy it because it’s happening” –stephen chbosky // i’ve repeated this quote to myself so many times in the past 2 weeks. i thought i’d share it here so that maybe someone else might remember or hear it for the first time. it’s from the book ‘perks of being a wallflower’ which by the way i recommend and loved. my mind seems to either be ahead of itself or stuck in the past and rarely do i find myself present in the moment. this can lead to some unhappiness and i’m just trying to make it my mission to at least learn to be a little more present and keep the worry at bay.

so my friends, enjoy it (life) because it’s happening right now– even if right now isn’t as exciting as you hoped or even if right now is full of tears and stress… it’s life and tomorrow will be a new day. i wish i could sit down with each of you and discuss this further but i can’t and i guess that is what the o’l internet is good for. that and spending to many hours watching kitten videos.
